Fishing Report - Wednesday, June 12th, 2013

Gallatin If you're taking a break from fishing right now, take advantage of kayaking or rafting the Mad Mile. It's looking pretty fun in the canyon right now. If you want to go fishing right now, keep driving. The water is high and still rising.

Madison

The higher up you go, the clearer the water will be. The stretch between Lyons Bridge and Palisades has been relatively good lately. No one fly has been consistently catching fish, so change your rig up often, figure out what they are eating, rinse and repeat. Large brown Pat's Rubber Legs: 4, 6 Black Girdle Bug: 6, 8, 10 Mega Prince: 6, 8 Sanjuan Worm: 6, 8 Streamers in olive and black, Red Copper John: 14, 16 Pheasant Tail: 14, 16 Purple Lightning Bug: 14, 16, Shop Vac: 16, 18

Lots of bugs popping around on the Lower Madison yesterday. It seems the warm temperatures have conjured up some caddis flies from the river bottom and bikinis from Bozeman. Start early on the hot days. The big fish still aren't looking up yet, but you can catch hungry little fish all day on tan Elk Hair Caddis and some PMD's in the morning. Large Stonefly nymphs with small Lightning Bugs trailing were getting the job done subsurface. We would suggest camping out down there until the Salmon Fly Hatch...should be anytime now.

Yellowstone The water is up and will keep rising a bit. It's been pretty warm in the valleys over the past few days and the snow is melting fast up high. If you're in that neck of the woods, try visiting some spring creeks!

Missouri June is a great time to be on the Missouri River. PMD's and caddis are showing up, mostly on the lower river but the nymphing game is still darn good, top to bottom. Target the sipping heads in the foam along the banks and seams. The flows are very low right which makes the fishy areas easier to find. PMD's: 14, 16, 18 Elk Hair Caddis 16, 18, Adams: 14, 16
