Back country skiing is a fun a rewarding experience. It is also very dangerous. Avalanches are a very real occurrence in the Montana Rockies. We are provideing a map of places we like to ski. There is no guarantee that these areas are safe.

NO AVALANCHE CONTROL IS DONE IN THE BACK COUNTRY AREAS COVERED IN THESE MAPS.

If you are inexperienced, we highly recommend that you get a guide well ecquainted with Winter back country travel to go with you.

Purchase an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel. Learn how to use them.

Take a course on avalanches and traveling in avalanche terrain.

Beehive and Middle Basins are accessed from the same trailhead. This makes for a fairly long approach to Middle Basin, so plan accordingly. The trek out of Middle Basin requires regaining the ridge to Beehive.
